TED TALK awesomeness

Posted by YK Hong under 365 release (No Comments)

Recently I gave a TED Talk (see link for information on this inspiring and riveting site) entitled, “How Having Nothing is Having Everything”. I spoke about my 365 Release project of letting go of one thing a day for 365 Days to practice letting go. You can read more about the project here. The TED Talk was incredible and I was opened to many new opportunities because of it. I am looking forward to seeing the edited video once it’s mounted on the TED site.

It also reminded me to spread the word about my project continuously as there are always people looking for ways to find happiness in the increasingly chaotic society that is our life.

Keep a lookout  for the link soon.

I’ll be giving a TED Talk on my anti-oppression work in May 2012.

TED.com is a wonderful forum where anyone can access free talks by some of the most incredible people in their fields. This is why I am honored to be giving a TED Talk and also looking forward to being able to spread the word about my work. Please check out the website as it has so many inspiring clips to change your life.

More details to come.

YKart, an intimate look

Over the next few months I’ll be introducing and examining my artwork individually and detail, as people have been asking me to share the stories behind each piece. Since my work is deeply embedded in conversations around difficult subjects such as race, identity and mindfulness, I feel it’s important to open up intentional dialogue around the pieces.

The first piece I’ll discuss is from 2010, and is entitled, “Dirty Knees.” It depicts a phrase that is deeply ingrained in the childhood taunts toward Asians, so much so that most Asians who see the piece may silently playback the full taunt in their heads, and many others from different backgrounds also are familiar with it. “Chinese, Japanese, dirty knees, look at these.”
